Nancy Brown

I have wanted to be a vet since I was four years old and I’m still delighted with my career choice. I studied at the Royal Veterinary College in London, and after qualifying in 2002 I worked in a mixed practice in Bedfordshire for three years. A love of small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery led me to a large hospital practice in Cambridgeshire for the next 12 years. After a move to Lincolnshire with my husband and two young sons, I joined SLVG in 2019, initially at Holbeach, then at the main hospital in Sutterton. For the last two and a half years I have been night vet for 3 nights a week.

Emergency and critical care is a particular passion for me- there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a patient heading home when you know without timely veterinary intervention things could have been very different. The night shifts can be hectic, but I relish the chance to get to know my patients and their owners a bit better, which I really enjoy. I love to serve that incredible, privileged bond between owner and pet. 

We have a great bunch of vets, nurses and receptionists on the night shifts. We are a close knit unit, working together to take care of the inpatients, see emergency consults, and carry out medical work ups or emergency surgery as needed. No night is ever the same.

There is a big, friendly team at South Lincs Vets and I am so proud of all my colleagues. With lots of extra pets since lockdown, and a lot less vets and nurses in the profession at the moment, we have been very busy, yet everyone has stepped up to pull together as a team and support each other.
