Emily Herbert

Deputy Head Nurse

Emily Herbert - Deputy Head Nurse
Emily Herbert RVN Deputy Head Nurse

After a big career change from banking, I decided to follow my true passion to become a veterinary nurse. I started working within the veterinary industry in June 2013, qualifying in April 2018.

I joined South Lincs Vet Group in February 2019 as Head RVN at the Heckington Branch. It was lovely to be a part of the development of a new branch. Building relationships with clients and their pets gives me great pleasure and I will endeavour to always be on hand to help, listen or advise.

In February this year I took on a new challenge and became deputy head nurse at the main hospital. It is a very different pace of life, but I am thoroughly enjoying nursing more complex cases, using my knowledge and growing and developing my skills. Stepping into a senior role has been a big change but I am relishing the new responsibility of team leadership. In addition to that I have a keen interest

in anaesthesia, laboratory diagnostics (particularly blood!) and wound management. I hope in the near future to carry out the BSAVA Wound Management merit which will help me grow my skills and knowledge further.

Outside of work I attend a weekly art group, where I enjoy trying out lots of different mediums. This year I have turned my hand to gardening, in particular growing fruit and vegetables. Watching my seeds germinate and develop knowing that I have grown them from scratch gives me a real sense of pride. Reading is also very important to me, giving me downtime from a very busy life. Sharing my

home, you won’t be surprised to know I have three rescue cats, Maggie, Autumn and Nyla who I hand reared last year. I also have two guinea pigs named Beatrice and Albert. Their names are inspired by royal history which is something I have a keen interest in.
